The 10 rules of success

Rule TWO:

Have Faith in Yourself

“The best platforms to stand on are your own two feet”

“The best hands to work with are your own two hands”

“They can conquer who believe they can.” –Dryden-

All successful people have one thing in common- they have faith in themselves. No progress can be made without the knowledge of the possibility to proportion to our confidence in our capacity to accomplish.

An athlete who is afraid of falling mid-way cannot take a winning jump; a singer who is not confident of her talent cannot give a breath-taking performance; a scientist who has no confidence in his knowledge cannot invent; a writer with no confidence in his writing cannot write. Confidence is the key to all success.

David J. Schwartz, in his famous book, “The Magic of Thinking Big”, says, Belief in success is one basic, absolutely essential ingredient in successful people. Believe, really believe, you can succeed and you will.

We will run a race only when we are confident of our capacity to run. The capacity to run cannot be wished, it has to be built with regular training and exercise and the true extent of our training is never hidden from us. Till we have equipped ourselves with the required talent we will not want to make an effort at the risk of failing. We will prefer not to make that effort at all. Even if we are forced into it our effort will be half-hearted and we are likely to quit mid-way.

“All strength and force of man comes from his faith in things unseen. He who believes is strong; he who doubts is weak. Strong convictions precede great action”. -J. F. Clarke.-

According to Schwartz, “when we face tough problems, we stay mired in the mud until we take action. Hope is a start. But hope needs action to win victories”.

This is what normally happens when a parachute jumper takes his first jump. Till he is in the aircraft waiting to jump he is afraid, but once he jumps, either on his own or is made to, he becomes confident and is able to open his parachute well in time to land without killing himself. With each successive jump he becomes more and more confident. If he is allowed to stand and wait for his fear to disappear before he leaves the plane he will become more fearful with every passing minute and taking the jump will become increasingly difficult, if not impossible.

Tips to remember always;

· Always remember that you are better than what you think you are. Failure is the stepping-stones to success for the wise; your belief in yourself is all that is important. Picture your success in your mind’s eye, plan and proceed.
· Never be afraid of hard work. No one reaches the to without climbing the steps.
· Don’t let fear of any kind stop you. Fear is not to be afraid of; it is to be worked at.
· Clear your mind of all negative thought and concentrate on your achievements. Make a positive memory account. Do not allow any negative thoughts either about yourself or other people crowd your mind. Negative thoughts do not produce positive results.
· Don’t be afraid of dreaming big. Big dreams bring big results. You can’t plan a small house and build a palace.
· Negative opinions of other people are to be ignored; we know more about ourselves than they do.
· Look at the successful people around you; see how they work and manage themselves and their affairs; how they plan in advance; how they overcome their obstacles.
· Always know if others can do it you can do it too.
